16 NCS Graduates from Yorkshire and Humber attended NCS Trust’s first ever Kick Start Programme!
Over 1700 NCS graduates applied to attend the first ever Kick Start programme, of which only 256 were successful and will now form Regional Youth Boards (RYB) across the country.
The Kick Start programme is an extension to the NCS programme, designed to prep graduates that are going to be representing their RYB in the year ahead. The 3 day event took part at Yarnfield Conference Centre, and involved a series of sessions designed to help the young people get to know each other and hear about the varied NCS experiences they have had so far. A number of interactive workshops included a grad led session ‘Passions for change’, a Radio 1 session called ‘How to be brilliant at coming up with great ideas’, and each grad had Social Media and PR training.
EFL Trust’s very own Beth Goddard also co-delivered a workshop named ‘Who do you think you are?’, a session on identity that proved very popular with young people. Well done Beth!
The event concluded with an opportunity to bring the whole experience together and start to think about the next steps. Existing members of EFL Trust’s RYB were invited to meet new members and pass on their experiences.
Casey Holmes, one of our new members and graduate from Rotherham United said “These few days have been great! We’ve done lots of interesting things that I have never done like DJ mixing. I met so many new people and learnt so much which has been amazing!”
When asked about getting on the RYB Casey added “I never thought I would get it, I really wanted to continue my NCS experience and so I applied through Opportunity Hub. I was so happy when Tony contacted me to confirm my place!”
Tony Buck, Youth Engagement Office for EFL Trust, was a team leader for the Kick Start programme said “My main role at NCS Kickstart programme was to work with the Yorkshire and Humber graduates, and they have been an absolute delight. The programme had a very demanding schedule, which the grads handled with great maturity and an eagerness to make progress. Kickstart has genuinely set up the RYB to achieve great things in the future.”
Tony who will be co-coordinating the Regional Youth Board was delighted with the 16 new faces “I was overwhelmed by the way this amazing group of young people bonded so quickly and how some of the ideas are already beginning to develop, watch this space!”
